How long will a flexible flue liner last?

Types of liner

Clay tile liners and cast-in-place liners (such as concrete) generally have a 50-year lifespan. However, these are generally not economic to install when re-lining an existing chimney stack.
For that reason, flexible stainless steel flue liners are mostly used, as they are easy to install and give a reasonable lifespan.

Stainless steel liners

In general, liners made of stainless steel usually last somewhere between 15 to 25 years (though some low quality liners might not even last for five).
This is dependent on the gauge of stainless steel used in the inner and outer walls; many manufacturers give a 10-year guarantee for 316 grade liners and up to a 25-year guarantee for 904 grade liners.

How Stainless steel liners are made?

Stainless steel is a material produced from many elements that can include:

● iron ore
● chromium
● aluminum
● molybdenum
● silicon
● titanium
● copper
● nickel

The exact ingredients and quantities of each ingredient, have an affect on the corrosion resistant properties of the finished item. Hence why liner containing 904 grade stainless steel is longer lasting, but also more expensive.
