Fire Cement - What You Need To Know

Fire Cement is a cement that is heat resistant up to 1250 degree celsius and is available in both black and cream finish.

When dry, fire cement is a non-flexible solid sealant.

The cement can be used to seal joints on stoves and in & around the area where the flue joins to the stove.

It can also be used to repair firebricks.

Unfortunately the expansion and contraction of your metal stove as it heats up and cools down, will crack any fire cement around joints over time.

Cracks in fire cement are only a problem if smoke is coming through.

Assuming your flue and stove are installed correctly and maintained, the negative pressure within the flue should draw smoke and fumes up your chimney, preventing any problems and any smoke leaking out.

It is important to remember to install a Carbon Monoxide alarm too and make sure it works, as this will provide a warning against any dangerous fumes.
