Replacing Your Stove Glass

Stoves glass is designed to withstand temperatures of about 600 degrees celsius. It is a form of high temperature glass but this doesn’t mean that it is unbreakable.

Stove glass can be broken numerous ways including, dropping on the hearth during cleaning or closing the door onto a protruding log. Over time the flattening of stove rope can also contribute, causing the glass to touch the cast of the stove exceeding the 600 degree celsius and cracking.

It is recommended when replacing the stove glass you should also replace the stove rope around the glass too.

To replace stove glass you are required to unscrew the screws which hold the glass clips. As these screws are made from steel (generally) they may be tough to unscrew due to their experience with high temperatures.

Then pop the clips and remove the glass.

Next is to remove the old stove rope & clean the groove where the stove rope sits.

Replacing stove glass may be required during the stove's life or it may not.

This is the removal now complete.

Next is to trace round the groove with glue. It is important to make sure that this is DONE WITH high temperature glue and NOT ordinary super glue.

Now place the fire rope into the groove & then push the glass into position.

Replace the clips and tighten back the screws to hold the glass in place and that is replacement done.
