Can I install my own flue liner?

Yes indeed, you can easily install your stove and flue liner system yourself.

If you are capable of doing the job yourself, and have experience in building and DIY, then you do not necessarily need to hire a specialist installer.

If you're not using a new chimney liner and are just installing the stove into an existing fireplace/chimney, the installation is really simple for someone with average DIY skills.

Installing a flexible chimney lineris a bigger job that could include ladders or scaffolding if you need external access to your roof, but it's still a relatively straightforward task.

In simple terms, it involves removing any chimney capping and either dropping the liner down the chimney stack or pulling it up from the bottom. Then backfill any gaps between the liner and stack with vermiculite loose fill insulation and connect a suitable cowl.

If you are confident with building works and working at height, then it can be easily attempted.

If you do the work yourself, the local council Building Control should be notified, and they will inspect and sign off on the work after it's finished.

Alternatively, if you use an installer who is approved by one of the related Competent Persons schemes, such as HETAS, will sign off on their work and provide you with a certificate.
